Acceptable Use Policy

Rules for using BottleChallenge responsibly

1. Overview

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") sets out the rules and guidelines for using BottleChallenge, a project operated by BrainGreen Foundation. This policy applies to all users, including visitors, registered users, refill partners, reward partners, and moderators.

This AUP supplements our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Violation of this AUP may result in temporary or permanent suspension of your access to BottleChallenge.

Our mission is to reduce plastic waste by making free water refills accessible worldwide. We expect all users to share this spirit and use the platform responsibly and honestly.

2. General acceptable use

You may use BottleChallenge to:

  • Search for and discover water refill stations near you
  • Add genuine, verified refill locations to help others
  • Write honest reviews and upload authentic photos of locations
  • Earn EcoDrops by scanning NFC/QR tags at participating locations
  • Redeem EcoDrops for rewards in the shop
  • Share the platform with friends and family
  • Register your business as a refill or reward partner
  • Report inaccurate information or problematic content
  • Use the API for non-commercial, environmental projects (with approval)

3. Prohibited activities

You must not use BottleChallenge for the following:

Strictly prohibited

  • Fraud & manipulation: Faking refill visits, manipulating GPS location, using automated tools to earn EcoDrops, creating multiple accounts to abuse rewards
  • False information: Submitting fake refill locations, writing false reviews, uploading misleading photos, impersonating other users or businesses
  • Harassment & abuse: Bullying, threatening, or harassing other users, partners, or staff. Posting hate speech, discriminatory, or violent content
  • Spam: Sending unsolicited messages, posting repetitive or irrelevant content, advertising products or services without authorization
  • Illegal activity: Using the platform for any purpose that violates applicable local, national, or international laws
  • Privacy violations: Collecting, harvesting, or storing personal data of other users. Posting personal information of others without consent
  • Intellectual property infringement: Using copyrighted material, trademarks, or proprietary content without authorization
  • Commercial exploitation: Reselling or commercially exploiting BottleChallenge data, content, or services without written permission

4. Content standards

All user-generated content (reviews, photos, comments, location data) must comply with these standards:

4.1 Reviews & ratings

  • Must be based on genuine personal experience at the location
  • Must be honest, fair, and not misleading
  • Must not contain personal attacks against staff or other visitors
  • Must not be exchanged for compensation from the reviewed location
  • May include constructive criticism but must remain respectful

4.2 Photos

  • Must be original or you must have rights to use them
  • Must be relevant to the refill location
  • Must not include identifiable individuals without their consent
  • Must not contain offensive, explicit, or inappropriate content
  • Must not be digitally altered to misrepresent the location

4.3 Location data

  • Must represent genuine water refill points that are accessible to the public
  • Must include accurate address and GPS coordinates
  • Must correctly describe the type of location (café, fountain, restaurant, etc.)
  • Must include accurate opening hours when known
  • Must not include private residences or restricted-access locations without owner consent

5. NFC/QR tag usage

BottleChallenge uses NFC tags and QR codes placed at participating refill locations to verify visits and award EcoDrops. When using these tags, you must:

5.1 Proper use

  • Only scan tags when you are physically present at the refill location
  • Scan tags using the official BottleChallenge app or website only
  • Use your own account — do not scan tags on behalf of others to earn their points
  • Do not share tag UIDs or QR code content for the purpose of remote scanning

5.2 Prohibited tag activities

  • Tag tampering: Moving, removing, damaging, or modifying NFC tags or QR codes at locations
  • Cloning: Copying, cloning, or reproducing NFC tag data or QR codes
  • Spoofing: Creating fake tags, spoofing tag UIDs, or emulating NFC signals to earn points fraudulently
  • Location spoofing: Using GPS spoofing, VPN, or other tools to falsify your location during scanning
  • Automated scanning: Using scripts, bots, or automated tools to scan tags
  • Re-scanning abuse: Attempting to bypass cooldown timers between scans

5.3 Data collected during scans

When you scan an NFC tag or QR code, we collect the tag UID, timestamp, and your approximate location (if permissions are granted) to verify the scan and award EcoDrops. This data is processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

6. EcoDrops & rewards

6.1 Fair earning

  • EcoDrops must be earned through genuine activities (scanning tags, adding real locations, writing honest reviews)
  • You must not create multiple accounts to earn additional points
  • You must not collude with other users or partners to artificially inflate points
  • Referral codes must be shared honestly — do not spam or use deceptive methods

6.2 Fair redemption

  • Rewards must be redeemed for personal use only
  • You must not resell, trade, or commercially exploit redeemed rewards
  • Voucher codes must not be shared publicly or sold
  • You must not exploit pricing errors or system glitches

6.3 Consequences of fraud

Fraudulent earning or redemption of EcoDrops will result in:

  • Immediate forfeiture of all accumulated EcoDrops
  • Reversal of any rewards obtained through fraud
  • Temporary or permanent account suspension
  • Potential legal action for significant or repeated offenses

7. Partner conduct

Partners (refill locations and reward providers) are held to additional standards:

7.1 Refill partners

  • Must genuinely offer free water refills during stated operating hours
  • Must keep their location information up to date (hours, address, availability)
  • Must maintain NFC tags and QR codes in working condition at the designated location
  • Must treat BottleChallenge users respectfully and without discrimination
  • Must ensure water quality meets local health and safety standards
  • Must not require purchases as a condition of providing refills

7.2 Reward partners

  • Must honor all rewards listed on the platform at the stated EcoDrops value
  • Must accurately describe reward offerings (no bait-and-switch)
  • Must process reward redemptions in a timely manner
  • Must not discriminate against BottleChallenge users compared to regular customers
  • Must comply with the Partner Terms of Service

8. Security & technical restrictions

You must not:

  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or our systems
  • Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of our systems without authorization
  • Use bots, crawlers, scrapers, or other automated tools to access the Service without written permission
  • Upload or transmit viruses, malware, or other malicious code
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service, servers, or networks
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
  • Circumvent rate limiting, authentication, or access controls
  • Exploit any bugs, glitches, or vulnerabilities (please report them instead)

Responsible disclosure: If you discover a security vulnerability, please report it to [email protected]. We appreciate responsible disclosure and will not take legal action against good-faith security researchers.

9. Reporting violations

If you believe someone is violating this Acceptable Use Policy, please let us know. You can:

  • In-app reporting: Use the "Report" button on any review, photo, or location to flag content
  • Email: Contact us at [email protected] with details of the violation
  • Contact form: Use the contact page to submit a report

When reporting, please include as much detail as possible: the username involved, the specific content or behavior, screenshots if available, and the date/time of the incident. All reports are reviewed by our moderation team and handled confidentially.

10. Enforcement

We take violations of this policy seriously. Depending on the severity and frequency of the violation, we may take one or more of the following actions:

We strive to be fair and proportionate in our enforcement. You may appeal any enforcement decision by contacting [email protected] within 14 days of the action being taken.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Acceptable Use Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will:

  • Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page
  • Notify users of material changes via email or in-app notification
  • Provide at least 14 days' notice before new restrictions take effect

Continued use of BottleChallenge after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
